Transportation, Aug 17 2012 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- The 7th International Hydrogen rail (Hydrail) conference has been held at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, at the University of Birmingham, UK.
The conference featured presentations by experts in a wide range of fields related to the development, deployment, and use of hydrogen and fuel cells in railway transportation.
The keynote presentation was from the Chief Scientific Advisor to the U.K.'s Department for Transport Prof. Roderick Smith, ScD FREng.
Presentations can be downloaded from the Hydrail website.
There was also a demonstration of the University of Birmingham's hydrogen-powered locomotive on 260mm track, the first ever hydrogen powered locomotive built in the UK, built by students and staff to compete in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ inaugural Railway Challenge contest.
