German Ministry of Education buys fuel cell power plant
Fuel Cells, Aug 10 2012 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has purchased a FuelCell Energy stationary fuel cell for its government complex in Berlin, Germany.
The plant power is described as "sub-megawatt".
It will be operational in 2014, and there is a 10 year service contract signed with Fuel Cell Energy Solutions Gmbh, a joint venture company between US company FuelCell Energy Inc and Germany research company Fraunhofer IKTS.
"This fuel cell power plant will demonstrate the value of fuel cell technology for the energy supply of large buildings," said Cornelia Quennedt-Thielen, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The direct client is construction company BAM Deutschland. It is developing the headquarters for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The fuel cell will provide both heat and fuel.
