Mercedes buys 72 Plug Power fuel cells for Alabama fork lifts
Fuel Cells, July 25 2012 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- Mercedes-Benz has purchased 72 "GenDrive" hydrogen fuel cells from Plug Power Inc, to power some of its Hyster fork lift trucks in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
They will replace lead acid batteries, which need more room for charging and have an "expensive maintenance infrastructure," Plug Power says.
The hydrogen stations will be provided by Air Products and located on site.
"Mercedes-Benz is an exciting customer to add to Plug Power's growing list of fuel cell adopters," said Andy Marsh, CEO at Plug Power.
"We intend to prove the value of GenDrive fuel cells in Tuscaloosa in order to reinforce the benefits experienced in auto-manufacturing facilities across North America."
