Horizon starts selling $99 fuel cell power units
Fuel Cells, July 25 2012 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies of Singapore has announced that its $99 portable fuel cell power units are now available in stores.
The units were first demonstrated in 2010 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Since then the units have undergone design improvements, cost reductions and CE certification.
Retailers include EI, the largest retail chain for recreational outdoor gear in North America.
The unit is the "world’s lowest-cost fuel cell power product," the company claims.
It runs on a refillable metal hydride fuel cartridge. It is IATA approved for air-cabin use.
The system might be used by campers, to power their laptops for long periods of time, the company suggests.
The company is now "collaborating with several multinationals" to develop fuel cell powered products, it says.
A personal hydrogen station, to fill the cartridges, is available for $249.00.
It is hoped that the systems will prove to be a pathway towards a broader range of hydrogen technologies.
