Stone Edge Farm of California buys fuel cell
Fuel Cells, Aug 02 2011 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- Stone Edge Farm, an organic farm and vinery in Sonoma Valley, California, has bought a stationary 5kW fuel cell from ClearEdge Power, to make electricity for its irrigation system and lighting.
The fuel cell will run directly on natural gas. The farm will also use the heat generated.
“A key to minimizing our impact on the earth is determining energy efficiency best practices that help meet the operational needs of our growing agricultural operations," says Mac McQuown, proprietor, Stone Edge Farm.
The company expects to reduce total energy costs by over $250,000 over 20 years from using the fuel cell.
