GM CEO - fuel cells now 2020
Fuel Cells, Aug  02  2011 (The Hydrogen Journal)

- Chairman and CEO of General Motors Dan Akerson has said he thinks hydrogen fuel cell vehicles won't be practical until at least 2020 in an interview with CNN.

"[Fuel cell vehicles are] very expensive now, but we've, just in the last two years, reduced the price of that technology by $100,000. The car is still too expensive and probably won't be practical until the 2020-plus period, I don't know. And then there's the issue of infrastructure," he said.

In 2009, GM said that fuel cell vehicles could be commercialised by 2015 and cost competitive with other vehicles by 2022.

In 2002, it said it was possible that hundreds and thousands of fuel cell vehicles could be on the road by 2010, an estimate subsequently revised to 1,000 by 2010. This goal was not achieved.
