US DoD provides $750k for portable fuel reactor research
Production, Aug 02 2011 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- The US Department of Defense has agreed to provide US company InnovaTek with $750.00 to continue developing its portable reactor which produces hydrogen from butanol, so it is ready to go into a fuel cell.
The award is made through the DoD Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program.
The Company will partner with Indiana University who will help develop the catalyst for the process.
The hydrogen is used to make electricity to power devices such as night vision googles and GPS systems, and prevent problems with batteries running out of power.
The butanol can be produced organically from fermentation of sugars and starches, with algae or agricultural byproducts as feed stock.
