Plaudits for AFC Energy’s progress
Fuel Cells, Nov  12  2010 (The Hydrogen Journal)

- UK fuel cell manufacturer AFC Energy has won plaudits from the UK's Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) for its progress

The study of AFC was made by Dr John Helliwell, project manager for Fuel Cell Applications at CPI. CPI is funded by regional agencies, the UK Government and the European Union.

“AFC Energy is maintaining an appropriate balance between the focus on commercialising the consolidated system design and the innovation that supports its technology development plans,” Mr Helliwell said.

He believes the company has “maintained its absolute focus on cost, performance and manufacturability” and sees “no technical reason why the system should not be delivered in accordance with the company’s technical development plan.”

Mr Helliwell also commended company investment in new pilot scale development facilities and equipment which will be elemental for the production of a new metal based electrode system, which has a higher volumetric power density and can be refurbished and reused.
